Citizenship Ceremonies

Ceremony Planning

The Department of Home Affairs will contact our office if there are any conferees awaiting a ceremony, and we confirm the next available date(s).

The Department will then notify the conferee(s) of their ceremony date and time.

You will only be listed for a ceremony in Leonora if that was the location you listed on your citizenship application.

If you've relocated to the Shire of Leonora and wish to hold your citizenship ceremony here, you need to contact the Department to request this.

Ceremony Dates

The Shire of Leonora conducts citizenship cermonies as part of our Ordinary Council Meetings.

These meetings take place on the third Tuesday of the month, from February through December, with the ceremony generally being scheduled for 11:00am.

Upcoming Council Meeting dates can be viewed here.

Where a Council meeting falls while Parliament is sitting, we are not permitted to hold a ceremony on that date.

The Parliamentary sittings calendar can be viewed here.

Please note that the minimum period between the Shire being advised of a conferee requiring a ceremony, and the ceremony being scheduled, is four weeks.

This is a Departmental requirement to allow for the official documents to be ordered.

Your Ceremony

As we normally only have one conferee/conferee family per ceremony, the duration is only around 15 minutes.

If you wish to have guests attend with you, please advise our office at least one week prior to ensure seating is available.

On the day, you'll need to bring photo ID with you and the dress code is smart casual.

Your ceremony will be conducted in Chambers with the Council and executive team present, and presided over by either the Shire President or CEO.

It will consist of a formal introduction, a welcome message from the Minister, an address to participants, the pledge of commitment, and the National Anthem.

For more details on the ceremony, please visit the Department of Home Affairs website here.
