Dogs

There are approximately 180 dogs registered in the Shire of Leonora and it is also considered there could be up to 200 unregistered dogs. Registration not only ensures that the owner is complying with State legislation, but also provides a method for the Ranger to return your dog quickly. When a dog is impounded it can only be returned to its owner if the Ranger knows where it comes from.

As of November 1st, 2013 all dogs that need to be registered must be microchipped.

Registration fees are set by the State Government and the current costs are as follows:

 *Proof of sterilisation is required on application to obtain sterilised concession fees.

**A Proof of "Working" status must be shown on application to obtain Working Dog concession fees.

Cats

It is a state requirement that cats be microchipped, sterilised and registered within WA. This law came into place on 1st November, 2013 and Cat registratons now run alongside dog registrations. Registration and microchipping is required so that any cat found by the ranger can be returned to their rightful home.

An exemption can be obtained from your veterinarian in regards to non-sterilisation or Microchipping of your cat.
